MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

Mixed martial arts refers to systems that combine elements from many forms of self defense and combative techniques into a single system to provide the student with tools and abilities to be used in a broad range of self defense scenarios. At the United Martial Arts Center we have always enthusiastically embraced well-rounded, multidiscipline training methods. To that end we offer what we think is one of the best mixed martial arts programs around: Shingitai Jujitsu.

SHINGITAI JUJITSU

This is an adult only, practical, combative system, which instructs students on developing skills in close range situations. Throws, joint locks, takedowns, and ground control are emphasized during the training. The system was developed by John Saylor. John is a former 3-time National Judo Champion, 2-time Pan American Medalist, and coached the U.S. National Judo Training Squad at the Olympic Training Center for 7 years. In 1987 Saylor was voted Coach Of The Year by the United States Judo Association.

You can visit Coach Saylor's Shingitai Jujitsu web site here.

Here is what Coach Saylor has to say about Sensei Ingallina and Shingitai Jujitsu at UMAC:

"I have known and worked with John Ingallina for many years. He is a master of several martial arts but my work with him has been in the art of Shingitai Jujitsu. John is an outstanding instructor and martial artist who is constantly expanding his own skills and knowledge. He is also one of the rare few who can impart his knowledge to others. John is the real deal and I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn the art of jujitsu. "

John Ingallina was awarded the international "Instructor of the Year" from the Shingitai Jujitsu Association in a ceremony in Perrysville, Ohio on May 19, 2007. Here, John is being presented the award by John Saylor. Here is what Coach Saylor had to say on the occasion:

"John Ingallina is a true teacher and coach in every sense of the word. He has the unique combination of being an incredible martial artist as well as an extremely effective communicator and motivator. The combination of these attributes are what sets him apart and made him the recipient of this year's award."

"I like all the things my daughter has been learning in the school; especially the self-discipline. She is more responsible at home and much more focused. The teachers grasp my daughter's attention and really teach."

A. Valero, Rochester

"My child has evolved from a shy, extremely sensitive child to one who has confidence, improved self-esteem, and a true meaning of self worth. He exhibits "Black Belt" behavior on a daily basis and someday hopes to achieve this status and rank. Thanks for a job well done."

M.A. McDonald, Brighton

"My overall feeling regarding the school is 'Outstanding.' My son has improved his listening skills, respect for others, self confidence & physical strength. He has learned that you can't always master something the first time - success takes practice. I would highly recommend the United Martial Arts Center to anyone."

Barbara Gerace, Brighton
