The Most Commonly Asked Questions Parents Have About Karate For Kids

1. Are the classes safe?

The average ratio is only eight students to one instructor. Our children's curriculum has been designed to accommodate ages 4 and up. This allows children to successfully learn and perform their moves so that they will feel good about themselves. Our curriculum is challenging but never too difficult. All the classes are highly supervised by our instructors.

2. Will my child have fun?

Motivation, excitement and fun are the essential tools we use to increase the learning and performance of our karate kids. Karate is good, clean fun for kids. We offer various school events that teach children how to get along better with others. Learning creates a spirit of teamwork and a sense of belonging. In recent months, our students have had martial arts birthday parties, attended sleep overs, pizza parties, summer fun camps and much more.

3. Will my child learn to be abusive?

This is a concern for many parents (as well it should be). The fact is, the opposite is true! Our students learn non-violent conflict resolution techniques which revolve around communication. They certainly do learn self-defense, which is age specific. The ironic thing is that the more they learn about self-defense, the less likely they will have to use their physical skills. That is because they carry themselves differently with confidence, assuredness and focus. Because of this they are less likely to be targeted as a victim.

4. How much does it cost?

Currently our school offers a great starter program. Our focus is to teach children "life skills". This program will include one semi private class and three group classes to get your child started. Because a structure of respect, courtesy and honesty is built into Karate, children develop the ability to listen, learn, and achieve within a highly regulated environment. If you have ever thought about getting your child started in the lasting benefits of karate at UMAC, now is the time.

"I like all the things my daughter has been learning in the school; especially the self-discipline. She is more responsible at home and much more focused. The teachers grasp my daughter's attention and really teach."

A. Valero, Rochester

"My child has evolved from a shy, extremely sensitive child to one who has confidence, improved self-esteem, and a true meaning of self worth. He exhibits "Black Belt" behavior on a daily basis and someday hopes to achieve this status and rank. Thanks for a job well done."

M.A. McDonald, Brighton

"My overall feeling regarding the school is 'Outstanding.' My son has improved his listening skills, respect for others, self confidence & physical strength. He has learned that you can't always master something the first time - success takes practice. I would highly recommend the United Martial Arts Center to anyone."

Barbara Gerace, Brighton
