John Ingallina is the Chief Instructor at the United Martial Arts Center. He currently holds a 5th degree black belt in Hattatsu Ryu, a 3rd degree black belt in Tatsu Do and a 2nd degree black belt in Shingitai Jujitsu. He has also had the privilege of training with experts in Russian Martial Art (Systema), Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Boxing and Wrestling. John is also the director of the NY State Rape and Assault Prevention (RAP) Association and advisory board member at Rape Crisis Services of Rochester. Over the years, he has trained with and instructed many law enforcement and military personnel making him one of the most sought after and respected instructors in the area. John has also been one of Rochester’s top personal trainers since 1988. His clients include many of the areas top athletes and executives. All training is done at UMAC, which John has developed into a “Functional Fitness Center.”

 

PAM WRIGHT

Pam has been actively involved in the martial arts since she began in the art of Tatsu-Do in 1996. Her hard work and dedication earned her a second Black Belt from Hattatsu Ryu in 2002. In addition to working on her advanced rank in Hattatsu Ryu, Pam is training in Shingitai Jujitsu. As the student director, her responsibilities include developing curriculum, lesson planning, and teaching. She brings her years of knowledge and passion for teaching to a program that is second to none in the region. She is also a Fitness Kickboxing instructor at UMAC and uses her 15 years as a competitive bodybuilder to help clients who desire private training.

 

RICH RYAN

1st Degree Black Belt Tatsu-Do

Years Training: 7

Rich has been training in the martial arts since 1998. He particularly benefits from the conditioning and self-defense training; both empty hands and against weapons. This is critical to Rich because his career is law enforcement where he has worked since 1990. He considers the United Martial Arts Center to be the top facility in the region because of the well-rounded programs, the knowledge of the instructors, and the eager and disciplined attitude of the students. Rich is an integral part of instructing both adults and juniors at the facility.

 

DAVID KALISH

David has been at the United Martial Arts Center since 2002, teaching Little Dragons and Junior classes. David comes to UMAC with a wealth of martial arts experience, having trained in Shotokan Karate, Seido Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Jujitsu. “UMAC is my second home. We have a great facility, challenging instructors, enthusiastic students, and a wide variety of programs to choose from. We have something for everyone.”

 

ALEX WRIGHT

Alex has been training in the martial arts since 1996. He is currently working toward his second-degree black belt and is active as an assistant instructor as well. Alex loves to skateboard, play paintball and “hang out” with his friends but freely admits, “Karate is one of the best thing’s I’ve done.” On an academic note, Alex has been accepted into the very difficult International Baccalaureate Program at Wilson Magnet where he begins in the fall of 2003.


JIM ADAMS

Jim has been training in martial arts since 2002. He previously trained privately with Sensei Ingallina in personal fitness for a number of years. This training eventually culminated in preparing Jim for the Philadelphia Phillies Phantasy Camp in Clearwater, Florida, prior to Spring Training 2002 where he batted 0.500 including a hit in the final game against the former Major Leaguers. By earning his shodan rank at the age of 48, Jim demonstrates that it is never too late to start martial arts training nor to receive its full benefits.


MARY ELLEN INGALLINA

Mary Ellen is the developer and instructor of United Martial Arts Center’s, “Fitness Interval Training (FIT)” and “Power Fusion” classes. She also teaches an Ultimate Bag Class (UBC) and is one of UMAC’s top personal trainers. Her energy and enthusiasm emerge in every one of her highflying classes. The outcomes are toned muscles, lower bodyfat and great lungs. Mary Ellen has been a licensed NYS physical therapist since 1982, specializing in geriatric rehabilitation and pediatrics. She also holds a part time position as a physical therapist with the Rochester City School District where she has been working with children since 1985.
