At the United Martial Arts Center we have always enthusiastically embraced well-rounded, multidiscipline training methods. To that end we offer one of the best mixed martial arts programs around: Shingitai Jujitsu.

Mixed martial arts refers to systems that combine elements from many forms of self defense and combative techniques into a single system to provide the student with tools and abilities to be used in a broad range of self defense scenarios. At the United Martial Arts Center we have always enthusiastically embraced well-rounded, multidiscipline training methods. To that end we offer what we think is one of the best mixed martial arts programs around: Shingitai Jujitsu.

Shingitai Jujitsu emphasizes effectiveness and we use any tool or tactic to achieve success. Our approach is to learn, teach and stress fundamentally sound core techniques that can be used in a time of escalated stress. We teach and train “chain techniques” which means one technique leads to another like real life self-defense. While we can train SJJ as sport or study it as a highly complex and involved martial art, it is first and foremost, a method of fighting and self-defense. The goal in Shingitai is to offer the most practical, effective and technically sound education to those who choose to embrace it.

Although the techniques of Shingitai Jujitsu are the same or similar to many other forms of jujitsu, there are fundamental differences in the methodology with which it is taught. Because it is a “fighting art” the objective, especially at the early stages of training, is to teach the student to have the ability to stay safe on the street. The focus is not on the recreational or competitive aspects of jujitsu or MMA. We will teach a student how to defend himself against a bigger, stronger, aggressive attacker in situations that would be most probable on the street.

To reach that objective we teach core techniques and principles which build the student from the foundation up. The human body has inherent weaknesses and exploiting those weaknesses while simultaneously protecting our own is the focus during the student’s initial phase of training. Once we are confident that a student has become proficient in these core skills they will be introduced to the more free flowing way of training that involves more sportive types of activities. As a student passes through the many phases of his or her training, he or she will undoubtedly learn many advanced techniques, tactics and strategies. Although their skill set will improve, they will never forget our purpose for training – to be as prepared as possible to defend ourselves, and our loved ones, on the street.

You can visit Coach Saylor’s Shingitai Jujitsu web site here.

Here is what Coach Saylor has to say about Sensei Ingallina and Shingitai Jujitsu at UMAC:

“John Ingallina is a true teacher and coach in every sense of the word. He has the unique combination of being an incredible martial artist as well as an extremely effective communicator and motivator. The combination of these attributes are what sets him apart and made him the recipient of this year’s award. The instructors at UMAC and the level of jujitsu demonstrated at these schools set them apart from most. The students are some of the best we see at our national camps and instruction events. Anyone interested in learning the art of jujitsu would be well advised to seek instruction at UMAC.”

John Saylor – 3 time US Judo Champion, 2 time Pan-Am medalist, Coach at the US Olympic Center 1983-1990, USJA Coach of the Year 1987
