Give your child their most exciting birthday party ever!

Who better to help celebrate your child’s birthday than the fun and outrageous instructors here at UMAC? I’m sure you have seen the energy and enthusiasm our instructors put into their karate classes… now imagine that energy mixed with the fun and entertainment of a birthday party. It will be one of the most thrilling and entertaining birthdays your family has ever experienced.

The instructors will spend the first half hour teaching your child and his/her guests a specialized karate class (specialized in fun, and entertainment). During the next half hour the kids will enjoy pizza followed by the Birthday boy/girl leading the cake cutting ceremony. Your child will assist the instructor as he cuts the cake with a Samurai sword (safety sword of course). After filling up with cake, we’ll open presents, and enjoy the last half hour of karate games and fun.

What’s all this cost? A lot less than you might imagine and certainly a lot less than other birthday party services in the area. The cost for the party is $199. This includes the 1 1/2 hour party for up to fifteen kids, two instructors, pizza, and all the place settings (napkins, forks, table cloth, etc.).

Make this years birthday an unforgettable one. Trust us: you’ll have a blast too!

Reserve your spot early to guarantee the day of your choice. Call us at either location today.

Looking for a summer camp that will benefit your kids for years to come? UMAC’s Ultimate Martial Arts Camp is the answer. Your child will have a blast participating in fun-filled activities that truly enhance their personal development. Campers will spend each day rotating to exciting activities that increase their physical fitness, develop their self-confidence and encourage their creative minds.

They will also learn skills that increase their safety, give them the ability to resist negative peer pressure and become a “leader” instead of a “follower.” This is all done in a safe, fun and motivating environment that cultivates success.

Included in our weekly events will be visits from special guests that may include:

Police officers

Firemen

EMT

Or other safety related guests

Along with martial arts based classes, the campers will also enjoy time doing things such as:

Arts

Crafts

The last day of camp is dedicated to our “Martial Arts Olympics” where all campers become medalists as they demonstrate their skills both mentally and physically.

This is a camp your child will look forward to every year! There is no previous martial arts experience necessary. The camp is open for children entering K-5 grade. All campers will receive t-shirts.

New for Summer of 2009: UMAC is also providing a series of “mini-camps” that will meet for two half-days a week at our Victor and Brighton locations, in addition to our usual Ultimate Martial Arts Camp.

In our “3-6 Year Old Camp” (Victor), we will introduce your pre-schoolers and kindergarteners to the basics of karate, including listening skills, focus, balance and coordination. Participants must be potty-trained (or a parent/guardian must be on site for the duration of the camp), and they will need to pack a snack as they will need plenty of energy for the fun and games we use to teach them karate. You can sign up a single week at a time, or for all 4 weeks. Classes are from 9:30 – 11.30 am on 7/20 & 7/22, 7/27 & /29, 8/3 & 8/5, and 8/10 & 8/12. Cost is $38 per week (Monday and Wednesday of each week).

In our “Karate Art” camp (Victor), each day we will feature a different authentic Japanese art project, complete with tidbits about Japanese culture, and then we’ll learn some karate moves while our project dries! This experience is perfect for the current karate student who enjoys art, or for the new student who is looking to try karate in a fun environment! Sessions are appropriate for students ages 4-7 or ages 8-12. (Classes will take place simultaneously but will be separated by age group). You can sign up for a single class, or for as many as you want. Class are from 1:30-3PM on 7/20, 7/22, 7/27, 7/29, 8/3, 8/5, 8/10 and 8/12, with a cost of $15/class or 4 classes for $54.

In our “Junior Camp” (Brighton), campers aged 9-14 will learn and train martial arts skills including: Okinawan weapons (safety of course), tumbling and gymnastics, obstacle courses and naturally, self-defense. For youngsters new to martial arts, this will be a perfect opportunity to learn from one of the best. For those that have taken karate, this camp will allow them to showcase their talents, pick up new skills and continue to hone their current techniques. The head instructor will be Sensei Erik Piazza who along with heading the UMAC Day Camps, is a music teacher in the Webster School District. This 1/2 day camp (8:30 AM – Noon) will be held from Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, with a cost of $85 for the week.

All of our camp sizes are limited, and they are expected to fill quickly, so sign up now!

The RAP Defense System is a program that has been developed exclusively for women and their self-protection needs.

The RAP Defense System is a program that has been developed exclusively for women and their self-protection needs. Physical, psychological and verbal skills are taught to prepare and protect women from very specific situations. The situations, attacks and defenses that surround an assault on a woman are much different than those that surround a man. These differences are studied, responses are determined and reactions are then constantly reinforced to protect and empower the student to control the outcome. Mental preparation and verbal responses are critically important areas of study in the RAP Defense System. Students of the system not only learn to protect themselves, they also become more confident, assertive and successful in every other area in their lives.

The Rape and Assault Prevention Association teaches applied personal safety. Awareness and avoidance skills are always emphasized as the first line of self-defense. Beyond this you will be taught the physical techniques needed to protect yourself from a larger, stronger and more aggressive person.

YOU WILL LEARN:

* how to recognize potentially dangerous situations and avoid them.
* to assess situations quickly and respond decisively.
* the different types of offenders, their unique characteristics, and how best to handle each one.
* verbal and physical tools to end an attempted assault and get to safety.
* safety tips to use when at home, traveling, driving, shopping etc.

Our programs range from a one-hour lecture, a two or four-hour seminar, to yet a full eight hour hands on workshop.

These programs will give you the knowledge, skills and attitude that lead to self-confidence and his self-esteem. The concepts taught and the numerous subjects covered genuinely make this a life changing experience.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Can this really happen to me?

We hope not. But the experts say that one in three women will be sexually assaulted sometime during their life. This training could keep you, or someone you love, from being a statistic.

Is this a martial arts class?

No – while some of the physical and psychological techniques are similar, this program is a concise and practical method of self-preservation.

Will these techniques work for me?

Without a doubt. Everyone can learn these simple yet effective techniques. This system of self-defense is appropriate for all ages, all levels of fitness, and all body types.

Can I really lower my chances of being raped by attending this program?

Absolutely! Not only will you become more aware of your surroundings but also you will be mentally and physically prepared to control a dangerous situation if it occurs. Remember, over 80% of the women that fought back helped their situation.

Will I remember these techniques?

Reviewing and practicing any learned material will always help with the retention. However, once you become attuned to the psychology of self-defense you will react to a situation automatically. An occasional review class is also recommended.

When are the classes scheduled?

The classes are typically run on Saturdays from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. Dates for upcoming classes and other information are posted on our blog, or you can fill out our online information request form to be notified of upcoming classes or seminars.

WOMEN’S RAP SERIES

At your request, we hold women’s only self-defense classes at UMAC. Periodically, we will present a comprehensive two-hour course on one main area of self-protection specific to a females needs. Violence against women continues to be on the rise. Take control of situations by learning how to fight back and WIN! You have a responsibility to protect yourself and your loved ones and these courses will give you the necessary tools. Every participant will leave with a brand new perspective on controlling situations! These courses are appropriate for women 13 and older.

The courses cover such topics as:

Weapon Defense

Grab & Hold Escapes

Ground Control

The classes are typically run on Saturdays from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M., and the fee will be $20, which will include handouts for reference. These courses are held on a rotating basis, and upcoming class dates and other information are available on our blog.

Weapon Defense

In this class, you will learn how to survive against an attacker with a gun, knife or other weapon using psychological and physical skills. You will learn why certain attackers use weapons, what to do and say when a weapon is shown and how to physically incapacitate this person if necessary. All techniques will be practiced on a padded “attacker.” You will leave this class prepared & empowered!

Grab & Hold Escapes

In this class, you will learn how to escape or control an attacker using psychological and physical skills. You will learn what holds attackers use and what to do if you are grabbed. You will literally make someone sorry they ever put their hands on you. In addition to this, you will learn and practice devastating strikes and kicks. All techniques will be practiced on a padded “attacker.”

Ground Control

Ground control is possibly the most important class. Participants will learn how to use their strength on the ground to escape an attacker. Basic moves are taught and practiced that make it extremely difficult for anyone to control you on the ground! You have got to experience the transformation that takes place when you control the outcome of a situation.

Additional information

Pre-registration is required as we will limit the amount of participants. Please call 461-1070 to register, email us at senseiingallina@selfdefensecenter.com, or register directly at United Martial Arts Center.

The instructor of the courses, John Ingallina, has been teaching self-protection courses since 1988. He is the director of the NY State Rape and Assault Prevention (NYSRAP) Association and advisory board member at Rape Crisis Services of Rochester. John is also the Chief Instructor at the United Martial Arts Center and holds a 5th degree black belt in Hattatsu Ryu, a 3rd degree black belt in Tatsu Do and a 2nd degree black belt in Shingitai Jujitsu. John has trained with and regularly instructs many law enforcement and military personnel making him one of the most sought after and respected instructors in the area.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

“I was taught to change my attitude and think as a resourceful survivor instead of a victim. The hands on practice of the techniques were truly empowering!” – K. Jacobs, M.D.

“The information we learned, the vast knowledge of the subject by the instructors, and the hands on techniques make this class invaluable to all women.” – M. Dennis, Administrative Assistant

“The insight they gave me on rape awareness and prevention was unbelievable. The physical techniques were incredibly empowering. Every women in every business or organization should have the opportunity to take this course!” – G. Morelle, Business Owner

“The structure of the course, the material presented and their organized focus left me with the confidence that I just received a high level education from true professionals. I have and will continue to recommend your course to my family, friends and business associates.” – C. Griffith, Financial Services
